Exploring the 5 Elements from a Traditional Chinese Medicine Background

Join internationally celebrated Yin & Dharma teacher Kali Basman on the journey back to the Self.

This Yin & Restorative Yoga Teacher Training focuses on hands-on, anatomical, structural, and energetic based practices for restoration of the body mind. Blending Buddhist Concepts with the Eight Limbs of Yoga, we’ll venture through a journey of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Five Element Theory.

The purpose of retreat & training life is deepening the understanding of your practice through intensive contemplation and somatic integration into one's system and stream, in a sanctuarious setting where stillness and space may seep into our being. Withdrawn to unfurl the most potent places in the self, undisturbed by normative patterns, the mind has the opportunity to turn inward and the body to explore the energetics of the inner world.

“Kali’s teachings have awakened the energy that had been buried unknown to me for so many years of my life and the fire within has been ignited to give and to offer to others.”

5 Elements Yin Yoga Teacher Training

- EARTH - WATER - FIRE - METAL - WOOD -

Grounded in the Five Element Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, each day will be dedicated to a deep exploration of the Elements.

Our work together as Sangha, spiritual community, will be within the domain of Yin Yoga and will contribute to your continuing education as a Yoga practitioner, inquisitor, and/or facilitator. We will touch on the realms of resetting the nervous system, healing from past traumas, dissolving tensions, increasing musculoskeletal resiliency, strengthening joint stability, and cultivating elasticity in the body mind. We use embodied and informed anatomy and alignment, scientific bases for sequencing, and psychological self inquiry grounded in Buddhist practices.

A specific focus on Pratyahara - the Great Withdrawal - will be encouraged by drawing the boundaries around retreat life to train in the principles of stillness, spaciousness, and quietude. Disconnecting from normative social contexts and devices is recommended during our time together to allow the nervous system to enter the deep folds of rich restoration.

In the serenity of the jungle, we’ll turn off all our devices and go online with our hearts, breath, and practice.

  • “Kali is one of the most articulate, informative and enjoyable teachers I've come across. She is brilliant in her abilities to weave content from science, neuroscience, psychology, yoga principles and philosophies into an informative training. It was part retreat and part training that enabled me to dive into my own practice at the same time absorbing new teaching methods, ideas, concepts and connections with others.”

  • "You cannot miss an opportunity to train with Kali. She is an exceptional teacher. This work is transformative, inspiring and healing. She creates a safe, nurturing, encouraging environment. Kali is an insightful, intuitive, gentle and strong leader. Words are not enough to express how wonderful she is. She is a gift to the world. Do yourself a favor and study with her."

  • "Kali provides the keys to the kingdom linking body, mind and breathe with subtle nuances enriched with her deep understanding of the knowledge of Yin Yoga. From the way she utilizes her vocals to move you through a posture or her creative way of breaking down the meridian channels and elements I felt my thirst for the awareness and insight into the Yin practice quenched a new depth of understanding of my body as well as a deeper mindful expansion of boundless nature for practitioners."

  • “The awakening and purification of my heart has been so profound that I may never have the right words to describe this transformation. Somehow, somewhere in the Sacred Valley, I felt like myself again and connected with my heart more than I ever had, I realized I had the permission to heal and I felt a sense of true contentment, which is genuine, unmotivated and unconditional.”

Getting There

Which airport should I fly into?

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (PVR)

When should I arrive/depart?

Please book your flight to arrive between 1pm-5pm on 10/12 and to depart after 4pm on 10/18.

How do I get from the airport to the training space and form the training to the airport?

We will work with the team at Haramara to coordinate airport shuttles. Shuttle costs are not included in registration and are paid in cash directly to your driver. Arrival shuttles are $90 (per shuttle) and departure shuttles are $65 (per shuttle). We will book shuttles for those arriving at similar times, so that the shuttle costs are shared. Typically, we are able to book ~3-4 per shuttle so that the cost is about $25-30 each plus tip. We'll email each group, so you know who you are meeting at the airport, and so that you have a sense of the estimated cost.

“I truly enjoyed every moment of Kali’s Yin training as it brought me to a new level of awareness in the body. This training has transformed my perspective on how Yin can heal the physical by unlocking the energy flow of the meridians pathways, while creating space for a deeper spiritual connection. A beautiful week of learning and discovery through Kali’s extensive range of knowledge and wisdom!”
